The U.S. Postal Service recently issued 42-cent Flags of Our Nation definitive stamps in 10 designs in Washington, D.C.
The stamps are the second set in the Flags of Our Nation series, which will feature two sets of 10 stamps issued each year through 2010. The stamps in this set feature the flags of the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Kansas.
For first-day cancellations, affix stamps to self-addressed envelopes and send them to FLAGS OF OUR NATION STAMPS, POSTMASTER, SPECIAL CANCELLATIONS, PO BOX 92282, WASHINGTON DC 20066-9998. Orders must be postmarked by Nov. 3.
Latin Jazz
The U.S. Postal Service also issued a 42-cent Latin Jazz commemorative stamp in Washington, D.C.
The stamp celebrates the rich musical heritage of the United States and features a design meant to convey the multicultural aspects of the music, its percussive and improvisational nature, and its rhythmic complexity.
For first-day cancellations, stamps should be affixed to self-addressed envelopes and sent to LATIN JAZZ STAMP, POSTMASTER, SPECIAL CANCELLATIONS, PO BOX 92282, WASHINGTON DC 20090-2282. Orders must be postmarked by Nov. 9.
Bette Davis
Also this month, the U.S. Postal Service will issue a 42-cent Bette Davis commemorative stamp Sept. 18 in Boston.
The 14th stamp in the Legends of Hollywood series, the stamp features a painting of Davis based on a still made during the filming of All About Eve (1950).
For first-day cancellations, stamps should be affixed to self-addressed envelopes and sent to BETTE DAVIS STAMP, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE, USPS BOSTON RETAIL TEAM, 25 DORCHESTER AVE., RM 3011, BOSTON, MA 02205-9600. Orders must be postmarked by Nov. 19.
Eid
The U.S. Postal Service will also issue a 42-cent Eid special stamp Sept. 23 in Washington, D.C.
Designed and calligraphed by Mohamed Zakariya, of Arlington, Va., the stamp was previously issued in 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2007.
